The Morning after PYPX

The classroom looks really bare now that everything has been cleared away. We took photos of each of the display boards to record for posterity!

Planning how to present our knowledge and understanding on PYPX Day.

As we move through the PYPX process and come closer to Exhibition Day we have been discussing how students can attract people to their displays. We had a look at other displays and discussed what we saw. We are using these displays to help us design and plan our own exhibition stations.

ES Sharing Day

Today the children had the opportunity to show their learning so far, the process through which they have been and their plans for the coming weeks and for the actual exhibition on Tuesday 12th April. Second, third and fourth graders visited and fourth graders gave feedback.

The fifth graders took turns to present and to visit other children's presentations, giving feedback too. This afternoon they have spent time reflecting on what they learned this morning, on what they might improve, on what further research they need to do and on what they need to focus on between now and exhibition day. They learned a lot about themselves and how they need to prepare for April 12th.

Below are a few photographs of the Sharing Day.

"We have a responsibility to help people eat healthily".
"Lunch time is an important part of the day."
"Our actions have a direct affect on other people".

"We express ourselves by talking".

"English helps us to communicate around the world".

"We have a responsibility to make our surfing safer"

"As digital citizens we have a responsibility to help people understand technology".

" It is important to speak German as I live in Germany".

Presenting and giving feedback.

"People have to be safe when they use the internet"

"Everyone should have the right to use technology"

PYPX

What did you achieve this week with your exhibition work?
This week I've achieved a few things starting with my rearch on CBBC news thats on the blog, and my PYPX is at the point when I am ready to show it to people and it can still got a few twinks in the middle of it.
what interesting information did you find?
the interesting thing that I found out is that there has been a recent talk to kids in Brussels about Internet Safety and they found that a girl was on the computer to work but she was supposed to be working but she clicked on a pop up that was left on the computer by one of the teacher's colleagues.
What breakthroughs did you have?
the breakthrough that I had was that for the talk in Brussels, because I thought that schools were so Private on certain websites.
so now the teacher is fired and she is now working in the Internation school of Brussels.  You would normally would think that she would now work at a less richer place that she worked at before.
What powerful connections did you make?
That Internet Safety is more connected to clicking on pop ups and spam mail than just looking at bad things.
What important conversations did you have?
the most important conversation was that I had to decide if Internet Safety is more connected to addiction or pop ups but then I did some research and then knew that it was going to have to be pop ups because those are more easy to click on.
How did you mini-mini exhibition help you?
It helped me more because I now I know what I am looking for.  And I know now what to talk about When I am doing the presentation day.

Reflection

What did you achieve with your exhibition work this week?
i understood my central idea better and got a lot of good facts and research. I think I am ready for the exhibition, just a few things have to be done. I liked the mini exibition and I was thinking about taking off some pages but I saw that the students were interested!!!
What success did you have?
Iwas able to find the questions that my mentor wanted to know and asked me. I found writing in a website and I read it and I found out that eating unhealthy would lead to early death. I never knew that!
What interesting information did you find?
i found out that eating unhealthy would damage you so much that your organs would start to become bigger.
What "breakthroughs" did you make?
My research and comunication was really good. I found really good ideas with Mrs.Thompson.  I also found really good facts that would connect to my CI. and I communicated with Iris and went together to the library with her also to Mrs.Coffey to look how the schools' cook was cooking.
What powerful connections did you make?
my facts and my writings.
What important conversations did you have?
with my mentors. they helped me a lot and told on what I should be better at and what I should improve on. They also told me what was really good.
How did our 'mini-mini' exhibition help you?
I was actually going to remove some papers that I had but then I saw people really  interested in it and Iris even took the paper that I was going to throw out and started reading it!

What did you achieve with your exhibition work this week?
I have achieved a lot. I have achieved getting my poster
done on time and I have achieved finding out a lot of
information about child gambling and normal gambling.
What success did you have?
I had a lot of success with finding out a lot of information
about child gambling and normal gambling like parent
gambling and gambling with a fruit machine and with a
slot machine.
What interesting information did you find?
i found a lot of very interesting information about children
gambling when parents don't know that they are gambling.
And why people gamble and what is the reason for gambling.
What "breakthroughs" did you make?
I had a very big breakthrough because I found out
a lot of information about gambling because i did not
know anything about gambling before I just watched it on the
T.V. I never knew anything about gambling but now I do because
I reasearched a lot and I found out a lot of information.
What powerful connections did you make?
I found out that children gamble at the age of 11 and up. and
I also found out that people gamble for the fun of it and they also
play for their friends and for their popularity.
What important conversations did you have?
I had a very important conversation with Mrs. Fiddimore about if I am
sure that I want to do Playing Games can lead to Addiction. And with
Mrs. Nicholson about what I should put on my poster and what will happen when
the 2,3,4th graders come and comment on the poster.
How did our 'mini-mini' exhibition help you?
It helped me think about how I should present my power point and my poster
and how I should continue with my presentation about child gambling.
I think a lot of the other people have done a good job on all of their projects
that sometimes I wish that I could do it as good as them
